BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR – ATANYA SOLAR

Atanya Solar is the newly formed Nigerian Subsidiary of Energicity Corp, the leading West African off grid minigrid company with 1.7MW in operations or under contract

Atanya Solar’s parent company, Energicity currently has operations in Sierra Leone- where it won a highly competitive government tender to provide energy services to up to 100,0000 people, and Ghana where it has been in operations since 2015.  Energicity’s value proposition to our rural customer, living in a community not connected to the grid – is to provide affordable, reliable electricity that is powerful enough to power any household or commercial need.  

Atanya Solar is hiring a Business Development Director to lead the company’s efforts to establish new minigrids according to our aggressive rollout plan, develop robust relationships with all levels of stakeholders, and make recommendations on new product and feature offerings to meet customer needs.

Duties of the Business Development Director include:

  • Responsible for the overall management of all strategic and operational marketing, customer engagement (sales), and stakeholder relationships including government and regulatory
  • Engage with rural communities to meet sales targets: Develop and lead small team that meets with rural chiefs and their communities to ensure that they select Atanya Solar as their off-grid electricity provider.  Note: meetings under mango trees with rural farmers must be a part of the work that you love, otherwise this role is not a good fit.
  • Project Management: Define and achieve sales plan, define project management plan and ensure execution of plan to achieve aggressive sales targets. Manage team budget and ensure timely reporting of budget and performance metrics.  Follow through on the permitting and compliance processes.
  • Rigorous Data based analysis: Create and use data to measure, analyze and improve performance. 
  • Strategy Development and execution: Define policy objectives in conjunction with management and build relationships all levels of government to achieve policy goals. Develop business case for strategic partnerships and negotiate relationships with strategic partners
  • Be a motivational and ethical team leader for all Atanya Solar employees -regardless of reporting lines.

Requirements of the role:

  • Master’s degree (Business Administration, Development Studies, Economics, or other relevant fields) strongly preferred with 2-5 years or more experience in management, management consulting, or experience in a business or high performing non-governmental organization (NGO) serving rural populations.  Or university degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Must be both Impact and Business focused, with an ability to define and achieve goals against both types of metrics – optimizing both, and making well-reasoned tradeoffs, if needed
  • Must have demonstrated relationship development skills with all levels of people – from rural farmers to leading government officials
  • Must have demonstrated experience thriving in high performance environment with aggressive goals on tight time frames
  • Proven project management and implementation skills
  • Analytical, data-driven thinker with superior problem-solving skills. 
  • Able to balance being both self-directed and engaging multifunctional team in collaborative decision making to achieve best results
  • This role will require significant time spent in the field. Assume full-time commitment to field office for first 6- 12 months.  
  • Local language skills are a requirement, French is a plus.

Compensation: Market compensation with quarterly performance bonuses. Considerable opportunity to grow within Atanya Solar and across Energicity Corp companies.
