JOB TITLE: Senior Operations and Maintenance Technician
LOCATION: Sierra Leone
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior O&M Technician supports the Maintenance Engineer in ensuring reliable operation of solar-hybrid mini-grids, leads advanced troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, and mentors field technicians. This role is ideal for a technically strong professional seeking to take on greater responsibility and grow into a future Maintenance Engineer position.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise field technicians during preventive maintenance activities and ensure timely completion of all scheduled tasks across assigned sites.
- Lead on-site troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of complex (Level 2–3) technical issues.
- Monitor performance metrics via SCADA and system dashboards; analyse data on energy generation, consumption, and equipment status to identify recurring issues and develop corrective action plans.
- Provide on-the-job coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to district technicians.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and contribute to weekly and monthly reporting.
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental standards during all field interventions.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification required: Technical diploma or Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
Experience: 4–7 years of experience in solar or hybrid power system Operations and Maintenance. Experience working in rural or remote project sites (implied under adaptability and travel).
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency with PV systems, battery storage, inverters (Victron, SMA, ATESS), and LV distribution grids.
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
- Ability to mentor and guide field teams.
- Familiarity with data monitoring systems and software tools used for performance analysis and reporting.
- Strong understanding of reporting, communication, and interpersonal engagement with diverse stakeholders, including community members and project partners.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
- Adaptability and willingness to work in rural or resource-limited environments.
