We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Solar PV Supervisor to join Energicity DBA Powe Leone Sierra Leone Limited. This position will help support the growth of our market development, operations, engineering, construction, and support teams to bring our electrification services to more than 100,000 customers in several African countries over the next 5 years. JOB TITLE: Solar PV Supervisor X 8
LOCATION: Freetown, Sierra Leone
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: Eight (8)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Solar PV Supervisor oversees on-site PV installation activities, leading field teams to ensure systems are installed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. Working under the Mini-Grid Site Manager, the role coordinates labour, contractors, and daily site operations, while addressing site-level technical issues and resource needs to keep projects on schedule and compliant.
This is a hands-on, field-intensive role that demands a solid understanding of solar technology, construction practices, and safety regulations, along with strong leadership skills. The Solar PV Supervisor also serves as the primary escalation point for on-site challenges and resource requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Site Management
- Oversee daily construction activities on site as assigned.
- Ensure tasks are completed on time, within budget, and according to approved engineering designs.
- Identify and resolve site issues early to prevent delays.
- Adjust plans and allocate resources to maintain progress according to schedule.
2. Team Leadership
- Lead construction tasks while fostering team motivation and collaboration.
- Supervise junior team members and hired labour on technical and non-technical tasks, providing guidance and support to maintain productivity.
- Mentor and guide installers, offering technical direction and promoting a positive, safety-conscious work environment.
- Ensure subcontractors adhere to SOPs, quality checklists, and safety protocols.
3. Technical Oversight
- Oversee proper installation of PV racking systems, solar panels, inverters, and other system components.
- Ensure wiring and system connections comply with design specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspect completed work to verify high-quality standards and adherence to designs.
- Coordinate with the Site Manager to manage equipment and material availability on site.
4. Safety & Quality Enforcement
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including PPE use and hazard prevention.
- Conduct risk mitigation and ensure compliance with the Construction Risk Mitigation Plan, local mini-grid codes, and industry standards.
- Complete milestone-based quality checklists throughout construction phases.
- Ensure alignment with internal Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and relevant government inspections.
5. Communication & Escalation
- Report progress, risks, and site issues to the Site Manager regularly.
- Escalate unresolved site-level issues, such as major design changes or resource shortages.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with the Site Manager as needed.
6. Process Adherence & Feedback
- Follow Energicity’s construction SOPs and reporting procedures.
- Participate in project debriefs, sharing lessons learned to improve future builds.
- Recommend practical improvements to SOPs and checklists based on on-site experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification required: Minimum requirement is a Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Solar PV Installation, or a related field (preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in electrical systems installation or site supervision, preferably within renewable energy or rural infrastructure projects.
- Solid knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) technology, electrical components, and industry-standard electrical installation practices.
Technical Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in electrical wiring installation, including house wiring and electrical component connections.
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on-site.
- Capable of managing, motivating, and effectively communicating with a diverse installation team.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, schematics, and installation manuals.
- Experienced in safely mounting solar panels, running wiring, connecting inverters, and integrating batteries in mini-grid systems.
- Able to conduct inspections, identify errors, and provide corrective guidance to ensure optimal system performance and longevity.
- Competent in performing electrical wiring, grounding, and testing in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Knowledgeable about electrical safety regulations and working safely at height.
- Understanding of system design principles and site assessment procedures.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and interacting with customers.
- Strong leadership and supervisory abilities, with hands-on field experience.
- Physically capable of working in diverse environments, including remote locations, and spending extended periods on construction sites.
