Is a subsidiary of Energicity Corp a US based company dedicated to ending the energy access crisis globally by developing building and operating sustainable energy solutions. Energicity Corp was founded by Nicole Poindexter, a leader in the energy and smart grid industries from her role as part of the team at Opower that took the company from start up to IPO and a wide ranging track record of success prior to entering the energy sector and Joe Philip, a long time solar industry veteran.
Black Star Energy has developed 5 solar rural electrification projects providing affordable, reliable, scalable solar powered electricity to cocoa farming communities totaling 1000 residents with significant demand to expand these services. Additionally, the company has a large and growing pipeline of commercial opportunities throughout Ghana. The home offices of Black Star Energy are in Kumasi, Ghana.
Black Star Energy Ltd is seeking an experienced professional to facilitate the scaling of the company’s operational capabilities enabling it to double production capacity in the next year and expand dramatically beyond that.
The role will consist broadly of ensuring that Black Star Energy build s robust operations capabilities that are the foundation of our being able to expand rapidly in Ghana and potentially to other countries. Successful fulfillment of the role will require developing people, processes and systems and providing leadership to deliver mission critical functions in the company.
Key functions that will this professional will lead:
Procurement, Inventory management: The professional in the Operations role will build procurement and inventory management processes ensuring that the company reliably sources the right equipment at the best cost and ensuring efficient management of inventory on an ongoing basis. This part of the role also includes identifying and negotiating with suppliers, and budgeting.
Project Management and logistics: The professional in the Operations role will have a leadership role along with senior management in project management functions for our commercial and off-grid deployments, including: scheduling, developing tools to enable the company to meet its pre and post construction milestones, measure results and facilitate a continuous improvement of our operational capabilities
Human capital development: As the company will expand our teams at a very rapid pace over the next two years, the professional in the Operations role will work cross functionally with senior leadership to develop tools and training to on-board new hires into Black Star Energy culture, processes and tools – ensuring that the employees have the appropriate level of knowledge to do their job and that they continue to grow their capabilities.

The ideal candidate for this role:
Has 3- 7 years of relevant experience in operations, construction management, project management or consulting in a high performing organization
Is excited about working in a fast paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial company
Has demonstrated ability to structure their own work and perform in environments that require high levels of independence and personal accountability
Exceptional problem solving capabilities – including validating root causes of issues with data and analytics, creating well developed solutions with clearly defined ways to measure outcomes and commitment to continuous improvement
Experience in establishing processes and conducting continuous improvements of processes using statistical metrics
Effective written and oral communications with a wide variety of people including team members, stakeholders, and customers ranging from CEO’s to subsistence farmers
Is detail oriented

Compensation and Seniority: As a start-up company we have flexibility to hire for this role at levels ranging from junior management to senior executive in the company based on level of relevant experience, culture fit and commitment to the mission and values of the company.
Compensation will be commensurate with level of experience.
