Energicity has recently been selected to operate a new portfolio of NEoT Off Grid Africa (NOA) mini-grid sites. To facilitate management of these sites, Energicity Corp is hiring an Environment, Social, and Safety (ESS) and Account Manager. The Manager will oversee ESS initiatives, monitoring, and reporting across the Energicity footprint and lead Energicity <> NOA relationship management. The ideal candidate is highly experienced in ESS with strong stakeholder management skills.

ESS: The ESS and Account Manager will be responsible for coordinating across teams to ensure that Energicity is providing services that promote high environmental and social well-being and maintaining the safety of employees and customers. The ideal candidate has immense passion for and applied experience in the ESS field. 

Account Management: The ESS and Account Manager will be responsible for thoroughly understanding the Energicity <> NOA MOMA and coordinating internally with our teams and externally with the NOA team to ensure we achieve milestones outlined therein.

ESS Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an in-house champion for ESS guiding principles, regulatory requirements, and best practices in the off-grid energy sector in West Africa.
  • Manage initiatives for elevating Energicity’s ESS activities, including implementing health, safety, and environmental plans.
  • Ensure Energicity sites comply with government, investor, and ESS community standards.
  • Manage monitoring and impact measurement of ESS initiatives and metrics.
  • Produce external reporting to partners and draft company ESS policies and procedures.
  • Design and lead ESS trainings and programming for Energicity teams

Account Manager Responsibilities:

  • Understand and manage the Energicity <> NOA MOMA, ensuring clarity on contractual obligations and milestones.
  • Identify and schedule contract milestones, coordinating with internal teams to ensure timely achievement.
  • Provide timely reporting on milestone progress and engage regularly with the NOA team to assess satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.
  • Log and address grievances promptly, ensuring satisfactory resolution to maintain positive client relationships.
  • Facilitate the integration of change requests or additional service requests into the MOMA or billing and implementation processes, ensuring alignment with contractual agreements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in ESS landscape, metrics, international standards, and best practices.
    • ESS knowledge pertaining to the off-grid energy sector is a strong plus.
    • Knowledge and previous experience with the IFC PS is a strong plus.
  • Applied experience in managing ESS programs and reporting.
  • Strong program and stakeholder management skills.
  • Terrific written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with conducting ESS assessments.
  • Position based in West Africa – Sierra Leone or Benin initially with opportunity to move to other countries. Some accommodation for remote work possible.
  • Excellent performance in bachelor’s or master’s Degree program, preferably in environmental sciences, sustainability, human rights, business, public policy, or engineering.
  • Significant work experience in in ESS, including a focus in at least one of the following areas:
    • Occupational health and safety
    • Community health and safety.
    • Security
    • Natural resource management.
    • Pollution prevention.
    • E-waste.
    • Land acquisition.
    • Biodiversity conservation.
    • Cultural heritage protection.
    • Human rights and protections, especially for vulnerable groups
  • Fluency in French is a strong plus.
  • Experience working in the off-grid energy sector is a strong plus.
