We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Associate Maintenance Manager. A successful candidate will contribute to bringing our electrification services to more than 100,000 customers in several African countries over the next 5 years. JOB TITLE: Associate Maintenance Manager

LOCATION: Sierra Leone 

JOB SUMMARY: 

As an Associate Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations of our solar mini-grid portfolio, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability. You will work closely with the maintenance and EPC teams, vendors, and customers to identify and address any issues that may arise and implement preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, is proactive, and can communicate effectively with the stakeholders of the maintenance team. Any background in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or solar photovoltaic power systems is considered a plus. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Lead the maintenance team in the day-to-day operations, ensuring timely and efficient resolution of maintenance requests and scheduled maintenance activities.
  2. Lead our maintenance ticketing efforts. This new platform forms the backbone of our maintenance operation – it allows us to keep an overview, prioritize tasks, and track the progress of our maintenance activities. The successful candidate is to own this platform and accelerate its use, ensuring that it is used by both field and office staff. 
  1. Organize maintenance technicians to perform regular inspections and assessments of solar mini-grid systems to identify any maintenance needs, performance issues, or potential risks.
  2. Coordinate with the procurement team, vendors, and suppliers to procure necessary spare parts, tools, and equipment for maintenance activities.
  3. Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans to optimize the performance and longevity of solar mini-grid systems.
  4. Prioritize customer inquiries and concerns regarding maintenance issues, and schedule the technical support and guidance.
  5. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities through the Maintenance ticketing system, including work orders, inspections, and equipment performance data.
  6. Monitor system performance indicators and analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  7. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards during maintenance operations.
  8. Own, plan, and conduct training for the maintenance team to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
  9. Stay updated with the latest advancements and industry best practices in solar power systems and maintenance techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS:  EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualification required: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a related field.

Experience: A relevant technical certification combined with extensive experience will also be considered.

  • Proven experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of power systems, preferably in the solar mini-grid context.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems, solar components, and power electronics.
  • Proficient in using maintenance management software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to safety and adherence to relevant regulations and standards.
  • Flexibility to travel to various project sites, as required.
