This role is critical in supporting the expansion of our market development, operations, engineering, construction, and support teams as we work toward connecting more than 100,000 customers across Africa within the next five years. JOB TITLE: Construction Manager
LOCATION: Liberia-Gbarpolu County
JOB SUMMARY: The Construction Manager is responsible for executing Energicity’s construction projects in a specific country or region. This role is the on-the-ground leader who ensures that all assigned sites are built on time, on budget, and to quality and safety standards. The Construction Manager works under the direction of the assigned Construction Lead, manages site supervisors, controls project costs (labor, consumables, transportation), and ensures smooth day-to-day execution in the field.
This is a hands-on, field-heavy position, requiring strong coordination skills, a disciplined
approach to safety and quality, and the ability to keep projects moving without delays. The
Construction Manager is also the first point of escalation for site-level challenges and resource
needs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Execution in the Field
Manage day-to-day construction activities for all sites in the assigned country/region.
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in line with approved
engineering designs.
Identify and address site issues early to prevent project delays (“getting stuck”).
Adjust plans and resources to keep work progressing according to schedule.
Supervision & Team Management
Assign supervisors to sites and monitor their performance.
Provide coaching and problem-solving support to supervisors to keep teams productive
and on track.
Ensure supervisors follow SOPs, quality checklists, and safety protocols.
Budget & Resource Management
Manage construction budgets for labor, consumables, and transportation at the site
level.
Track expenses and ensure all spending stays within approved limits.
Work with procurement and logistics to ensure materials are delivered on time and
securely stored.
Report on budget status to the assigned Construction Lead.
Safety & Quality Enforcement
Ensure safety protocols are strictly followed by all site staff and contractors, including
PPE use and hazard prevention.
Maintain respectful engagement with client communities and project stakeholders.
Oversee completion of milestone-based quality checklists at each stage of construction.
Ensure compliance with internal Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and any applicable
government inspection requirements.
Communication & Escalation
Report project progress, risks, and issues to the assigned Construction Lead regularly.
Escalate issues that cannot be resolved at the site level (e.g., significant design
changes, budget overruns, resource shortages).
Maintain clear communication with engineering, procurement, and operations teams as
needed.
Process Adherence & Feedback
Ensure supervisors follow Energicity’s construction SOPs and reporting processes.
Participate in project debriefs and share lessons learned from the field to improve future builds.
Suggest practical improvements to SOPs and checklists based on real-world site
conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification required: Diploma in Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy, or any other related field of study.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in construction or civil engineering, with preference for experience in solar mini-grid or related energy projects.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and advanced problem-solving skills with proven hands-on field experience.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget, even in challenging field conditions.
- Proficient in budget tracking, logistics coordination, and resource planning.
- Committed to consistently enforcing safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Flexible and willing to travel frequently, with the ability to spend extended periods on construction sites.
- Capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Resilient under pressure, adaptable to local cultures and field realities.
- Ability to safely mount solar panels, run wiring, connect inverters, and integrate batteries
- in mini grid systems.
- Ability to conduct inspections and guide/correct mistakes in the installation of System
- components to ensure optimal performance and lifespan.
- Ability to perform necessary electrical wiring, grounding, and testing according to
- manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
- Knowledge of safety standards for electrical work and working at height.
- Understanding of system design and site assessment.
