We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Segment Technician- Minigrid Operations and Maintenance to join Energicity DBA Starlight Energy Liberia Limited. This position will help support the growth of our market development, operations, engineering, construction, and support teams to bring our electrification services to more than 100,000 customers in several African countries over the next 5 years. JOB TITLE: Segment Technician -Minigrid Operations and Maintenance
LOCATION: Gbarpolu County, Monrovia-Liberia
JOB SUMMARY
The Segment Technician is responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of solar mini-grid systems within an assigned service area. The role focuses on routine inspections, preventive maintenance, customer connections, fault identification, issue troubleshooting, and reporting. Working under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Segment Technician helps ensure reliable power supply, network availability, and quality service delivery through the safe and effective execution of field activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Segment Technician shall perform the following duties:
1. Routine Operations and Site Monitoring
- Conduct routine inspections of mini-grid assets, including generation, distribution, and customer connection infrastructure.
- Perform operational checks and record system status.
- Monitor site performance indicators and promptly report abnormalities.
- Support commissioning and energization activities when required.
2. Preventive Maintenance
- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance activities on:
- Solar PV systems
- Battery systems
- Inverters and control equipment
- Distribution networks
- Customer metering infrastructure
- Clean solar panels and maintain equipment areas.
- Complete maintenance checklists and records accurately.
3. Fault Response and Repairs
- Identify and troubleshoot faults on mini-grid systems.
- Perform corrective maintenance and repairs in accordance with approved procedures.
- Escalate complex technical issues to the Maintenance Manager.
- Support restoration activities during outages and emergency interventions.
4. Customer Connections and Metering
- Support new customer connections and service activations.
- Install, inspect, replace, and troubleshoot prepaid meters and service drops.
- Verify the quality and safety of customer installations before energization.
- Assist in disconnection and reconnection activities as required.
5. Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect operational and maintenance data from assigned sites.
- Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, spare parts usage, and customer connection work.
- Support asset inventory and site documentation updates.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification required:
- Diploma, Technical Certificate, or Associate Degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Renewable Energy
- Electro-Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Installation and Maintenance
- Or a related technical field.
Experience
- 0–3 years of experience in technical field operations, maintenance, or electrical installation.
- Experience in solar PV systems, electrical installations, mini-grids, generators, or distribution networks is an advantage.
Required Competencies
Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and safe work practices.
- Ability to use electrical testing tools and measuring instruments.
- Basic troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to follow maintenance procedures and technical instructions.
- Familiarity with solar PV systems is an advantage.
